Meal Plan – November 23, 2014

Weekly Menu Plan May 2013Having the monthly meal plan already typed up has been helpful.  I like that you all can see my month at a glance, if desired, and also it was a hands-on activity that showed me just how often we repeat some things.  Yes, I can see it on the printed menu also.  Typing it out was another way that made it more obvious.

Our freezer was pretty bare of the basics when the month began.  I had used up most of our meats, though had several pounds of pre-cooked ground beef and a bag of pork chops.  There was also a box of pizza dough balls, black beans, green tomato puree and various other vegetables.  As the month went along, I realized that the meat sales I was hoping for just were not happening.  We have had alternative meals several times.  Thankfully my husband likes spaghetti.  Last week I decided to buy extra salad items instead of paying $7 per pound for minute steaks.

When I mentioned it to my husband, his response was, “But I like minute steaks.  You should have bought them.”

“I do too, but not at $7 a pound.  For that price I would rather have steak, or salad. You like salads, too.B  I will buy them again … when a sale comes around.  But not at the current price.”

There is a reason I tease him that me going without him is one of the biggest savers of our grocery bill.

Speaking of our spending, I looked back over this months spending all together and noted that about half the time I used cash, and the other half I used a card.  Seems I was more comfortable using cash on the smaller purchases (under $20) than the larger ones.  Not sure if this was due to the amount of cash I had on me, or the reluctance to give the cashier all my cash.  I now see why having all your budgeted money with you in a predesignated envelope is recommended when you begin.

Simple Meal Planning - Plan to Eat

If you have been looking at taking your meal planning to the next level, or even looking to begin planning, I would highly recommend Plan To Eat.  Even better is the Black Friday Weekend Sale they are having from November 28 – December 1.  You save 50% off all yearly subscriptions.

There is also the option to purchase this as a gift for someone else. This would make a great gift for a new wife or mom, someone who says they do not want more clutter in their home, or that friend/relative who is trying to become more organized.  There are so many scenarios I am thinking of where this would be perfect.
