The above photo was taken by me when we were on vacation to the Wisconsin Dells last year. I am always amazed at the places a tree can grow. All it takes is for a seed to land on a bit of dirt, add water and voila, a tree will begin to grow. What a great example of a symbiotic relationship. The tree needs the dirt to live, the rocks need dirt to keep them from wearing away. While neither is exactly alive, in the ‘having a brain’ sense, they do benefit each other. The tree’s roots hold the dirt in place, the rocks give the trees a place to live. The result is a great demonstration of exactly how strong a tree’s roots can be, and just how little space they need to take hold and grow. I have been looking at this picture the whole time I have been writing this post and have yet to grow tired of it. It looks so peaceful and calm; I can almost hear the bird singing and the water dripping down the rocks. The articles below vary from slightly heavy to fairly easy. I am pretty exhausted right now, so there is only so much I can think through at the moment.
Seems a corpse is attracting attention. At least this time it is at a botanical garden.
Seems we as a species will survive another day. I used to wonder why people kept predicting things were going to hit the Earth, but never did, and why others took it so seriously. Then I realized it was because they either had their math wrong or they had no belief in a God who was in control. The first can be blamed on bad or lacking data. The second leaves me feeling heartbroken.
Josh Duggar was RIGHT! What He Did Proves That – I couldn’t have put it better if I had tried. In my head I have wondered why it is that the media was so bent on exposing something that happened over a decade ago, commited by a teenager, but seem to have ignored even worse things taking place just this year committed by an adult. (No explicit photo or info, but not a ‘family friendly’ news article.)
Christians already knew Josh was a sinner from the beginning. We certainly didn’t need the media to tell us that. Now we know to what extent, but our message remains the same: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3:23)
Winter forecasts: Can you trust them? – Well, of course not. I can not even trust the 5 outlook, so why would I think one showing weather for several months away would be accurate? However, it is still fun to look. I have done a lot less canning this year compared to years past. I am not so worried about being snowed in, as I am about just being cold in general. For that matter, ‘worried’ is a bit strong. Mainly I am wondering if I need to gather up more inside activities for the kids. Depending on where you live, you may still have time to plant a fall garden.
2 U.S. soldiers subdue gunman on Paris-bound train – way to go Marines. Protecting those around them, even when they are not on their native soil.
Are you having zucchini overload? This has not been a problem for me this year, but it has in years past. Here is a new ‘recipe’ for those of you already stocked up with zucchini bread, zucchini jam, frozen shredded zucchini, sliced zucchini for frying … okay, I will not list the 100 ways you can use it. Instead take a look at these cute kids and their zucchini ketchup recipe to make your ‘Ways To Use Zucchini’ a nice round 101.
