Well, our oven is still out of commission.  We could try to use it, it probably would work, but right now it is not necessary so we are dealing with this latest … challenge.  🙂  The plan was to go shopping this past Saturday, but it did not work out that way.  I think we will take Monday to go, as my husband is off work so we can go together.  It has not been impossible to not use the stove, but there have been several things we have wanted to make but did not want to risk it stop cooking half way through.  Things like:

All things that we can live without, but several of which we have in the freezer or would like to eat.

Of last’s weeks 5 new soup recipes 3 were made – 1 planned for Saturday was nixed as we skipped lunch in lieu of a late breakfast and an early supper, another was one whose beans I had not made ahead of time.  Both of these recipes were moved to future weeks.

Simple Meal Planning - Plan to Eat

When I opened up Plan to Eat, my meal planning site, I found that I did myself a favor last week and filled in 90% of this week’s meal plan.  Made this week so much easier to finish.  I rearranged a few things, carried over a soup recipe from last week to fill in a missing meal, and made sure none of them needed an oven to make.  With 150 recipes entered, it is easy to glance down the list and drag the ones I wish to use into the appropriate slot.

If you are curious about this meal planning website, made a New Year’s resolution to be more organized, or need help planning better so you eat better I would encourage you to try the 30-free trial offered on Plan To Eat’s website.  You can take advantage of all the opportunities they offer.  If you decide to subscribe, the yearly plan will cost you only $39 a year.  That comes out to just $0.75 a week.  After trying various methods to gather recipes, plan and write it out in a way that the whole household knows what we are eating and when, and then creating a shopping plan from it, paying only 75 cents a week is a huge savings considering the time and effort I save.

It took me a while to give in to my curiosity about this site, even after hearing rave reviews about it from those whose meal planning I envied.  After all, the way I had been doing things was ‘okay’.  I initially did the 30-day trial, did not register for the year subscription, talked it over with my husband, then decided to try it for a year to see if it was really worth it.

Not only have I not looked back, but I have come to love and rely upon it even more.  When life was really chaotic, this was one area that had become easier.

Proverbs 31: 14-15 KJV – “She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.”

I may not have maids and other human servants to help in the work, but this is one ‘servant’ I am happy to employ to make my day easier.

Dinner

  2. Healthy Slow-cooked Tikka Masala, rice, veggetables
  3. Potato Leek Soup
  4. Pulled Chicken with Apple-Cucumber Slaw, fried potatoes
  5. The Dude’s Chili
  6. Cuban Black Bean Soup
  7. Leftovers
